Lectern

Privacy Policy

Effective October 7, 2026

Lectern is built so that we don't need your data. We do not collect, store, sell or share any personal information.

What stays on your device

All Bible texts are included in the app. Your highlights, notes, bookmarks, reading plans, reading history, memory verses and settings are stored locally on your device.

iCloud sync (optional)

If iCloud is enabled on your device and iCloud Sync is turned on in Lectern, your Lectern data is synced through your private iCloud database operated by Apple. We have no access to it. You can turn sync off at any time in Settings › Sync & Privacy. Apple's handling of iCloud data is described in Apple's Privacy Policy.

Purchases

In-app purchases (Lectern Plus and optional tips) are processed entirely by Apple. We receive no payment or personal information. We only learn, on your device, whether Lectern Plus is unlocked.

No analytics, no ads, no tracking

Lectern contains no analytics SDKs, no advertising, no third-party trackers and no crash reporters that send data to us. Lectern does not use the advertising identifier.

Notifications

If you turn on the daily reminder, notifications are scheduled locally on your device. No data is sent anywhere.

Audio

Read-aloud runs entirely on your device, either with Apple's speech voices or with Lectern Voice. Text is never sent to any server.

Lectern Voice is an optional speech model (about 330 MB). If you choose to download it, Lectern fetches the model files once from Hugging Face (huggingface.co), which, like any web server, receives your IP address for that download. No personal data, Bible text or usage information is sent. After the download, Lectern Voice works offline.

Study downloads

Extra commentaries and the Hebrew & Greek interlinear are optional downloads. If you choose to download one, Lectern fetches the file once from this website (lecternbible.app, hosted by Cloudflare), which, like any web server, receives your IP address for that request. We do not keep logs or analytics about these downloads. Nothing else is sent, and the files work offline afterwards.

Reciting verses (microphone)

When you use “Say It” to recite a memory verse, Lectern asks for access to the microphone and speech recognition. Your voice is turned into text on your device only (Apple's on-device recognition), compared with the verse and then discarded. Nothing is recorded, stored or sent anywhere. If on-device recognition isn't available for a language, the feature is simply off for that language.

Children

Lectern does not collect data from anyone, including children.

Your rights

Because we don't hold personal data about you, there is nothing for us to access, correct or delete. You can export or delete all of your Lectern data inside the app at any time, and deleting the app removes local data. iCloud data can be managed in your device's iCloud settings.
